PRACTICAL APPROACH

Instead of implementing the obvious options employed by competing programs, we offer guidelines and insights to sidestep the pitfalls that tend to undermine many community groups. For instance, relying on a council versus a coordinator ensures better representation and encourages consensus building. Remaining apolitical and true to purpose eliminates division and distraction. Focusing on patterns of criminal activity and suspicious behavior provides objectivity to avoid bias and profiling.

STARTUP SUPPORT

Developed as an alternative to traditional, often outdated “watch” programs, we bring community crime prevention into the digital age. What began as a prototype in a single Columbus neighborhood soon grew into a model program ready for expansion elsewhere. Organized more like a tech startup than a typical nonprofit, we help ambitious neighbors connect and define common goals, then empower them with tested techniques to make their communities more safe and secure for everyone.

TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE

Among the leading frustrations when it comes to home security is the lack of technical expertise. Doorbell cameras seem simple enough, but what about more complex systems and settings? When crimes occur, it may be a neighbor’s camera that had a better point of view. We provide no-cost evaluations and recommendations for individuals to identify overlooked vulnerabilities, and help neighborhoods create a volunteer network of low-cost cameras to provide collective coverage and peace of mind.

CONNECTING COMMUNITIES

SECURBAN LIVING coordinates efforts with partner organizations to provide access to addiction treatment, mental health services, and homelessness outreach. From government programs and fellow nonprofits to faith-based initiatives, we connect neighbors and community resources to support holistic solutions.

EXPERT ADVOCACY

Even well-connected neighborhoods don’t always know where to turn when persistent crime and safety concerns become serious, perhaps dangerous. That’s when experience matters most. Though we are independent, our professional relationships with local law enforcement agencies, multiple municipalities, and elected officials offer advocacy that only access provides. And by acting as an intermediary, we can also work with investigators to deliver evidence while maintaining neighbor privacy.
